Tonic, launched in January 2023 by Rowan Yapp and Alexis Kirschbaum (Head of Bloomsbury Trade), is an imprint dedicated to living, publishing books that help us to think, feel and live well. Tonic authors are leading experts in their fields with the empathy that comes from lived experience and immersive research; their books are warm, full of character and relevant to everyday life.
At Bluebird, Harper worked closely with the Publisher, Carole Tonkinson, and proved her ability to develop existing and new brands such as Vex King and Kaushal. Her commissions included solutions-driven wellbeing titles such as To My Sisters, Happy Families and SEEK. Prior to Bluebird, Harper worked at Square Peg and Octopus across a range of wellbeing, lifestyle and commercial non-fiction.
Having worked with Mireille in the past, I know what a talent she is, not to mention a joy for authors and colleagues to work with. Alexis and I are thrilled to now able to bring her to Bloomsbury. Mireille will be a fantastic champion for Tonic within the trade and her commissioning will really cement the future of this still-new imprint.
Harper will publish her own list as well as overseeing titles acquired to the Tonic list by other editors from Bloomsbury Trade and Bloomsbury Lifestyle.
I am overjoyed to be joining Tonic - I am inspired by the breadth of the list and the opportunity to build its identity. I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Rowan again, and to continue to learn from her brilliant strategic and creative vision, whilst building the reputation for Tonic.
