To mark the release of the new Throne of Glass cover designs in hardback and paperback, we asked the people who work on the books—Bloomsbury editors, marketers, and in-house fans—to share their favorite book in the series and the reasons behind their selection.
“Everything that happens in The Assassin's Blade is so pivotal to Celaena's character and the story later on in the series. I also adore this new cover. Celaena seeing the Lord of the North through the trees on her way to Endovier is such an emotional moment, and I love that it was chosen to represent the book!”
“Throne of Glass is quite simply one of my all-time favorite novels, and to me it is completely genre-defying. As the starting point for what is an epic roller coaster of a series, it is practically perfect in every way. It has everything: peril, intrigue, and a kick-ass heroine, of course, but the tension! Oh, the tension.
With shades of familiar mythology, but told in a completely unique way, it’s just a brilliant escape from real life. The new covers are utterly swoonsome, showcasing the sheer scale of the series and the unique flavor of each book. Throne of Glass is my favorite, though, because Celaena is right there in the center of it all, about to embark on her incredible journey.”
“The new cover for Crown of Midnight is iconic and compelling. The bold illustrations make you want to dive into the series at that exact point regardless of where the book sits in SJM’s epic fantasy lineup. This is a stand-out book with fantastic pacing and legendary development for our favorite characters that takes the world of Throne of Glass to the next level.”
“Reading Heir of Fire for the first time was a captivating and emotional experience that I won't forget. Not only does this book have some of the best quotes about surviving trauma, but you see Celaena start to heal from her past and overcome her mental block to become the queen she's supposed to be.
Watching Celaena accept her destiny and flaws makes this one of my favorite books to reread. I love how the hawk and wyvern on the cover can be read as a symbol of the characters who help lead the two female protagonists into accepting their destinies.”
“The fifth installment in this epic series is arguably the darkest—and one of the most action-packed! This is the book where all the characters and plot lines, both past and present, start to weave together. Aelin is at her absolute best in this book, surprising you at every turn and becoming one of the most powerful and entertaining characters in fantasy!”
“Empire of Storms gives you everything you need from any good fantasy story. It is a showstopping, heart-wrenching, breathtaking, exhilarating adventure that will have you entranced every step of the way. Never able to predict just what is around the corner, you will be left on the very edge of your seat, white-knuckling it with every single page turned.”
“Having a whole book about Chaol felt like a gift—and so did having a whole book about a part of the world we hadn’t seen before. It was a chance to take a breath before the epic ending in Kingdom of Ash, and it made me so excited for what was to come, both in that book and in Sarah’s future writing!”
“The epic finale to the most epic of series! The Throne of Glass series is a roller coaster of a time and Kingdom of Ash knocked me to the ground emotionally with SJM once again proving she is the Queen of Fantasy.”
