As part of Bloomsbury’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, we are delighted to offer the Publishing Assistant Apprenticeship. This ground-breaking training programme is delivered by LDN Apprenticeships, rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, and created in partnership with the Publishers Association and professionals from some of the UK’s leading trade and academic publishers.
The programme aims to attract new and diverse voices to the publishing industry, offering a structured framework to learn about the entire publishing process, from the conception of a book, digital or other product, through the production process. It also explores the role of marketing, publicity and sales, and leads to a recognised qualification (Level 3 Publishing Assistant Apprenticeship).
Bloomsbury welcomed its first apprentices in April 2021 and will offer 12 Publishing Assistant Apprenticeships across different departments, including marketing and editorial on a 15 month rolling basis. Each apprenticeship is 15 months long, with the majority of Publishing Assistant Apprentices going on to secure roles within the industry.

“I love working with our apprentices and I’m so proud that Bloomsbury are an integral part of this fantastic initiative. It’s a real positive step to making the publishing industry more accessible to an untapped resource of really talented people who may not have considered publishing as a career.”
Julia Thomson, Senior HR Advisor and manager of the apprenticeship programme at Bloomsbury
“It was a huge boon to my production team to have two LDN publishing apprentices on board for 15 months. Their energy, drive and enthusiasm proved to be a real morale boost for the whole team who really enjoyed working alongside them. I was delighted to be able to offer them permanent positions in the team at the end of the apprenticeship and they continue to be huge assets; not least because the apprenticeship has taught them so much about all areas of publishing.”
Joanne Murphy, Head of Production at Bloomsbury
